Being Human
The poem has been written to question the structures of social conduct that demand conformity and are utterly hostile to individuality. Written in a sarcastic tone, the poem lays bare the façade of what it is to be human and wonder
if there is any more to morality than a social protocol. It’s exhausting.
The morality,
The forced behaviour against the natural fibre of your being
Only stressed time and again to put you in line,
To make you feel incompetent
Inadequate
Unfeeling
Even inhuman.
What is it to be human?
What is expected?
Isn’t it to be human to have anger?
Hatred?
Jealousy?
Vengefulness?
Human?
If that’s not human, what is?
